《中学英语教学大纲》指出“中学英语教学目的，是对中学生进行听、说、读、写”的基本训练，培养学生口语和书面上初步运用英语的能力，侧重培养阅读能力。阅读是理解和吸收书面信息的重要手段，它能给学生提供丰富的教育教学资源，阅读能力的提高是提高其他英语能力的关键。
