博物馆是陈列、研究、珍藏人类物质文明和精神文明的重要场所，是闪烁着知识和智慧的奇妙世界，是帮助人们连结古今的桥梁，更是一本“厚重的立体百科全书”。学术界普遍认为，在博物馆三大职能中，收藏和科研是为了更好地保护和利用，它最终是为教育服务。只有具备了教育职能，才能称之为博物馆，如果一个博物馆不通过教育去为社会服务，就不能称其为博物馆。
